4 Questions of Self Reflection
4 Questions of Self Reflection
One of the main elements of the Do U framework is the 4 questions of self reflection. It's these questions that really get us to consider where we are in our journey because we're forced to confront our current perspective. The rest of the process invites us to create and plan out of the answers we give to these questions so it's really important that we're honest so we can build from a strong foundation.
Who are you?
The first question, who are you? is meant to establish placement in your journey. You can add many different qualifiers in order to get more detailed insight but ultimately the answers help you to establish who you are you, to you, in this moment of your journey.
Some variations of the question may be; who are you today? who are you to your loved ones? who have you been? what words do you use to describe yourself? who are you to Source?
What do you want?
Question two of the 4 questions is what do you want? This question moves us forward in the journey to start to establish direction. I find that the answers here, reveal the capacity, one has, to believe. When you live in an infinite world and choose to limit your wishlist to what you can see you are doing yourself a disservice. It is in this space that we can reveal and heal limiting beliefs that allow us to see our full potential. Often we'll find that our capacity to believe is influenced by how we describe ourselves. It is in this way that we start to see the interconnectivity of our journey.
Other versions of this question include: what do you want in a relationship? what do you want to achieve? what do you want to see in the world? what do you want to be/do? what do you want your life to look like?
Where are you going?
This question serves as a reminder as we embark on our journey. As the third layer of the 4 questions we've already established who we are and what we want so now we know what we carry with us as we move through life, but because life is always throwing curveballs, we sometimes forget exactly where we're headed or simply get distracted.
Your main answer to this question will always be an element of your vision so that you remind yourself of why you're doing what you're doing what you set out to do; your intention. The work done here is the planning of your journey. Create the breakdown of steps based on the big picture and let that serve as your "bowling lane bumpers" as you maneuver through life. Every situation won't allow you to keep a straight and narrow path but if you can keep your vision somewhere in sight as you travel forward, then you'll always be on the right track and you'll never end up in the gutter.
Other ways to ask yourself this question may be: is this what you really want in your career? are you sure that's what your Body needs? will this move you in the direction of what you want? is that what you said you were going to do?
How will you get there?
Finally, we ask ourselves how will you get there?, as the fourth installment of the 4 questions. This question is meant to zoom us out even further and focus on the community we engage with as we move through life. The support you have and the role you play to the greater good are integral to your journey so it's important keep that in mind. You should think about your heart posture when it comes to this question because it's truly your compass and driving force in this journey. This question really boils down to accountability. When you know why you do what you do and have planned to stay true to that, the rest comes much easier.
This reflection may come up as: do you feel supported if not, how can you get it? are you moving in integrity? how will this effect your legacy? is this how you want to be remembered? are you leading by example?
This is just a small snapshot of the myriad of ways the 4 questions of self reflection can impact you and your journey. As you work through each and feel them out, you come to realize that they lead you from step to step without much effort on your part. Each question guides you from a different center into making Self-centered decisions and plans that benefit the collective. You allow yourself to shape who you are and accept that you can create the life that you really want. And when, from that space, you plan the steps that you take mindfully and with intention on a daily basis, you affect change for everyone that crosses your path.
With these 4 questions you can and will create the life that is really on your heart and leave the world far more beautiful than you found it and we are all so grateful for that.
